Chenjerai Hove has had to relate to "his" dictator since Robert Mugabe came to power in Zimbabwe in 1980. Hove was forced to leave Zimbabwe in 2001, and is currently working on an autobiographical story of his complicated relationship with Mugabe from his exile in Miami City of Refuge.
Prominent writers Philo Ikonya (Kenya) and Sihem Bensedrine (Tunisia) have also had to leave their countries recently. Why are writers targets of censorship and persecution in today's Africa? How can they maintain resistance towards oppressive regimes from exile?
South African cartoonist Zapiro (Jonathan Shapiro), who was recently sued for defamation by President Jacob Zuma, will also take part in this conversation.
Moderator: Stefan Helgesson, writer and lecturer.
