Europe is becoming more mixed and more Islamic – and is shutting itself off

“Multicultural” Europe reveals itself with “new” literature, Paris has become the literary capital of Africa, “migrant” authors are looking everywhere for their place in the literary world. What are their concerns and what are they writing? How do they assess the growing significance in Europe of xenophobia and hostility towards Islam?

Taking part:

Salim Bachi (Paris/France), author, born and grown up in Algeria, many awards already for his debut novel “Le chien d’Ulysse”; latest novel “Amours et aventures de Sindbad le Marin” (Gallimard 2010)

Sihem Bensedrine (Tunis/Tunisia), author, journalist, human rights activist, repeatedly arrested; living in Barcelona since 2009 at the invitation of the “Cities of Refuge” project

Wilfried N’Sondé (Berlin), author and musician, born in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, studied in Paris; his awards for “Le Coeur des enfants-léopards” (Actes Sud 2007) include the “Prix des cinq continents de la francophonie”

Chaired by: Peter Ripken (Frankfurt am Main), Chair of the Board of the International Cities of Refuge Network (ICORN)
