Great Refugee Week events coming up in Norwich

Next week, Refugee Week is on in Norwich, and Shahrazad takes part with several events. Refugee Week is a unique opportunity to discover and celebrate the contributions refugees bring to the UK, and this time Shahrazad offers Digital Stories exhibitions, a poetic search for Europe's soul, and a library that lends out humans!

In Other People's Shoes - Digital Stories Exhibition

Come and enjoy some free digital films on Europe's largest digital screen (pictured above).

If you're in Norwich between 7-11 June then pop into The Forum's Fusion space and witness some inspiring films made by groups of Norfolk and Norwich residents.

We challenged them to reveal what they think about home, borders, identity, belonging and human rights. With the help of BBC Voices, they responded with a series of short digital stories using film, photographs, music and words to give their views.

You can enjoy the results and experience films that are thought-provoking and moving. The perfect introduction to a host of Refugee Week 2010 events coming your way!

Letters to Europe Digital Stories Exhibition

What do young people think about Europe in the 21st Century? What are their hopes and fears?

Find out by visiting the Fusion space in The Forum between the 14th -18th June. You can discover an exhibition of films on Europe's largest digital screen, the outcome of our work with school children across Norfolk.

The students' creative responses have resulted in beautiful and poignant work and they run alongside films by young people from Norwich's European partner cities. This is an inspirational chance to look at what home means from different perspectives, lit up brilliantly on the big screen.

In Search of Europe's Soul

Join us for an evening that will reveal key insights into the powerful role poetry can play in society and beyond.

The Brussels Poetry Collective set out to ignite some passion into the discourse about Europe's true soul by commissioning some startling poetry from over 50 poets from Europe and beyond.

Collectively called The European Constitution in Verse, the resulting poems are critical, passionate and real.

Come and experience them yourself by listening to work from International City of Refuge Writers in Residence Faraj Bayrakdar, Easterine Kire Iralu and Salem Zenia at this event, part of a European tour.

Tickets: £4 on the door. To reserve your place call: 01603 877177 or email: info@writerscentrenorwich.org.uk

Borrow Me! Human Library

Imagine borrowing a person from your local library in the same way you would borrow a book. How easily would you ‘read' the book? Would you find what you expected to, and can you really judge a book by its cover?

During Refugee Week 2010 you'll have the opportunity to find out - you can borrow a ‘human book' and read it; which means chatting, asking questions and discovering whole new worlds. As it is Refugee Week all of the ‘books' on loan will have some connection to that theme.

This event has had a great effect on participants across the world and is not to be missed.

Events will be held across the county of Norfolk in Thetford, Great Yarmouth, Cromer, King Lynn and Norwich.
